Revelation, the Series: Chapters 1:7-11

I will bring the actual scriptures to you as literally, historically and grammatically as they were written by the 40 inspired writers of the Holy Bible (KJV). In addition, I will share our beliefs and why we believe them; However, I urge you to be as the Bereans at Thessalonica were and search the scriptures daily to see if what was said is true. (Acts 17:11)

                                            ******************

                                    Additional Comments:

*In Rev 1:19..John was instructed to :Write the things which thou hast seen, (Jesus Christ, Chapter 1) and the things which are, (the Churches, Chapters 2 and 3) and the things which shall be hereafter; ( Chapters 4 thru 22)This outline of Revelation is unique to its pages. (emphasis added)

*The number of "Sevens" in the books of the Bible are numerous but none so much as in Revelation. I think one will find there is an inexhaustible supply of sevens in this book. As the number “SEVEN” has a meaning of completion, we get the feeling that a final completion of all things is truly coming.

Revelations, the Series: Chapter 1:7-11

Revelation is the only book in the bible that offers a blessing to those who read and understand its pages.

Today, we will continue in our Bible Study of the Book of Revelation written by John of Patmos. Revelation is the ancient Greek word apokalupsis (apocalypse).  The word simply means “a revealing, an unveiling.”. It is important to note that Revelation is singular and is NOT the Revelation of JOHN but rather the unveiling of Jesus Christ.

Rev 1:7-8.."Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.v8..I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."

"Behold, he cometh with clouds"1; When Jesus comes back for the second time, He will be surrounded by clouds as He was when He ascended to Heaven. John actually sees Jesus in the clouds in Rev 14:14 and was at the Mt. of Transfiguration. His 2nd coming was described by the two men that stood by them in white apparel; These were not angels but MEN. Could they be the same as the two Witnesses. We will dig this out a little later in the chapters of Revelation. "Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." (Acts 1:9-11)

"and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him."

every eye” refers to the entire earth. An idiom where every person that is alive on earth will see him coming in the clouds. (Mat 24:30) including those that crucified Him, the Nation of Israel. The whole earth shall dread to see Him coming for a large part of them have denied Him all their lives. This also to my understanding relates to the geocentricity of the earth however, this is another study!

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." The Alpha and Omega, the first and last of the Greek language refers to the Hebrew language where the “Aleph” and “Taware the first and last letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The Hebrew “Aleph” is the root of our Alphabet. We also we see two of the seven titles used to describe Jesus Christ as will be seen again in chapters 2 through 20. Here again we see the outline of Revelation (Which is,(Jesus Christ) Which was,(the Churches) Which is to come, (chapters 4 through 22).

Rev 1:9-11.. "I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. V10.. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, v11.. Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea."

John not only confirms that he is part of the Church (Body of Christ) that you and I are a part of but also gives us his location during his writing of Revelation. John was exiled to Patmos by the Roman Emperor Domitian (81-96 AD) who was the brother of Titus, who in 70 AD had destroyed Jerusalem.2

I was in the Spirit : Each of us are eternal through a spirit which is the ‘true usand a mortal container (our body) which consist of flesh, bone and blood (only the Bone will be accepted in Heaven)3 While this was not a ‘Walk in the Spirit’ as Paul stated in Galatians 5:16, John did find himself in the spirit on the Lord's day,:

I ask you to answer to yourself. Just what the Lord’s day is? If you said “Sunday” you would be wrong! God began creation on day one and rested on the seventh day. In those days, the cycle of the moon (30 days) determined the month, and the days were counted one through thirty with a week division being “one” through “Seven”. The Sabbath was always on the “seventh day” on God’s calendar (the number “Seven” means completion). The Roman calendars began around 700 BC and eventually had twelve months with 354 days. Yet not until around the second to the fourth century AD, were the days of a week named. Although Sunday was the first day of the week, it was named “[dies] Dominicus (Dominica)”, I,e., “The Lord’s Day” with Saturday being named for the Sabbath. There is also a curious European Calendar where Monday is the first day and Sunday the seventh?

and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,: This will correspond to scripture(s) that describes God’s commands as the sound of a trumpet.4 From the next line we know it is the voice of Jesus Christ. Nine out of ten Churches will try to relate the this trumpet and the trumpet of 1 Thes 4:16..For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:”, with the last trumpet found in Rev 11:15. These are two different trumpets, sounds. We will discuss this in depth when we get to chapter 11.

Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: Again, a title for Jesus Christ..

In this first chapter of Revelation, how many titles of Jesus Christ are there? I’ll leave that for you to find in your study of Revelation Chapter 1.

What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; There are thirty-three “I Saw's in the Book of Revelation. I believe this is a fail-safe against the things that John saw as being spiritualized although nine out of ten churches do so with the entire book of Revelation.

unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea." : The question of WHY these Seven Churches when there were numerous other churches surrounding them. These were actual churches during the time of John ( Write those things which ARE!)

. I have included a link to map of these churches from (www. Bible.ca)5.

WHY these seven churches and WHY are they given in this specific order? In the coming articles about chapters two and three, I believe we will find the answers.

Revelation, the Series: Chapters 1:1-6

However, I urge you to be as the Bereans at Thessalonica were and search the scriptures daily to see if what was said is true. (Acts 17:11)

'

Revelation deals with the End Times that shows us the future tribulations the earth will go through. It brings us a glimpse of the Pre-Millennial, Pre-Tribulation Rapture and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Because none of us know when our time on this earth is at an end; it is paramount that you know exactly where you are in your walk with Jesus Christ. Since your justification/salvation is not determined by the Church you attend or the amount of good work you do, etc.; I urge you to make sure of your personal relationship with Jesus Christ in the privacy of your own time, before you read any further in this book.

                                                       ************

Revelations, the Series: Chapter 1:1-6

Revelation is the only book in the bible that offers a blessing to those who read and understand its pages.

Tonight, we will be going over the Book of Revelation written by John of Patmos. Revelation is the ancient Greek word apokalupsis (apocalypse).  The word simply means “a revealing, an unveiling.”. It is important to note that Revelation is singular and is NOT the Revelation of JOHN but rather the unveiling of Jesus Christ.

Rev 1:1-3.."The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew our word unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: v2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. v3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand."

God (the father) is unveiling 1 His son Jesus Christ and all that He gave him. From this point on, it is Jesus who is speaking to His servants (John 12:26), John about the future prophecies that MUST SHORTLY 2come to pass.

Jesus sends one of His Angels3 to signified4 it so John would partially understand and be able to describe what He will be seeing to us.
When something is signified, it is placed in picture form. Even today, a good movie will affect your understanding of what you are seeing far more that the descriptive words of a book.

It is important to understand this is not a vision that comes into ones mind. But, rather it is the “picture” account of the events John actually saw both on earth and in Heaven. Rem. John was charged with writing all things that he saw5

No other book in the Bible gives a Blessed is he that readeth,”. The "he" in this declaration is singular thus Jesus is speaking directly to the reader.
and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein:” The word theyis plural and refers to those individuals that hear the words. This usually happens during a preaching at the Church on Sunday with the plural “theyreferring to the congregation. Of course, the keeping of those “thingsrefers to “ALL" the Words of Jesus Christ.

Rev 1:4-6 "John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; v5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, v6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

John to the seven churches which are in Asia: WHY is John only addressing seven Churches ?
Basically, “Asia”, a Roman province at the time of Jesus Christ, is the area we know today to Asia-Minor which includes the western parts of Turkey. After the birth of the Church (Body of Christ,Pentecost)6, the Gospel of Jesus Christ was spread throughout this area to include Greece and Italy. There were hundreds of churches during this time but only seven were chosen among them all. As to the WHY, I believe chapters two and three have the answers.

Notice the reference to a title of Jesus Christ; from him which is, and which was and which is to come”. This title and six other titles recognized in this first chapter will appear again in future chapters. It also shows the eternal realm of Jesus Christ. To be all these is to be “beyond Time

from the seven Spirits”:7
Spirit of the Lord
is the supernatural power source that creates God's
thoughts in our hearts.

Spirit of Wisdom
is all of God's supernatural Thoughts themselves.

Spirit of Understanding
is God's personal illumination of those thoughts.

Spirit of Counsel
is God's personal instructions for Godly choices.

Spirit of Strength
is God's supernatural ability to perform those
thoughts in our lives.

Spirit of Knowledge
is seeing God's Thoughts manifested in our life actions.

Fear of the Lord
is walking in God's Love and Truth, fleeing anything that would quench His Spirit.
These descriptions of the seven spirits, which are before His Throne represents the completeness of the Holy Spirit.

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.15 The ancient Greek word translated witness is also the word for a martyr.
the first begotten of the dead”, He is the firstfruits of re-birth and is the begotten (prōtótokos) Firstborn from the Dead. He is pre-eminent among all those who are or will be resurrected. He is the firstfruits of many.8

the prince of the kings of the earth.“ He will rule over kings and Kingdoms. Beginning in the Millennium, Jesus will rule over the entire world from the Throne of David.9

Unto him that loved us," The “Loved” is past tense meaning that Jesus from the beginning loved us. From Rom 8:29..”For whom he did foreknow”, suggest that the Beginning was long before the foundations of the Earth were laid. The thought that He LOVED us so long without fail is beyond compare. Remember, at the Cross He died for the sins of the world and whoever beliveth in Him should be saved. 10

and washed us from our sins in his own blood” We now know how much He LOVED us for when He died, He washed away our sins in His Blood. Through His unfettered sacrifice on that Cross he died and shed His blood for the world’s sins. “But Christ was willing to shed his own blood, to pour out his soul unto death, that we might be saved.” (Spurgeon)

And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father;” There are only three people who are kings and priests. One was “Melchizedek11,, Jesus Christ12 and His Church (His Body, His bethrothed Bride).13 Under the Laws of Moses, It was forbidden for any man including the Levidic priesthood to be both a King and Priest. Judgement was brought upon all those who claimed to be both.14

to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Revelation, the Series: Introduction

Revelation, the Series: Introduction

This is the only book in the Bible where a Blessing is given to the reader.

In this series of articles on Revelation,, We will take you through the Book of Revelation in-depth chapter by chapter and verse by verse. We feel it is important that you have the information you need to determine your Eschatology  and Ecclesiology.

Eschatology / Ecclesiology
How one uses Hermeneutics (methodology of interpretation) usually determines what their Eschatology (study of the End Times) and Ecclesiology (theological study of the Christian Church) is.

Amillennial                        Post-Millennial                            Pre-Millennial
Preterest                           Mid-Tribulation                      Pre-Tribulation-Rapture
                                          Pre-Wrath

Allegorical------------- ------------Hermeneutics--------------------------------> Literal

There are four major interpretations of revelation trying to read the mysteries of Revelation into their particular eschatology1

1. The Preterist/Ammilennialist : interprets the events of Revelation as largely being fulfilled in the first century where Jerusalem fell at the hands of Rome in 70 AD. The Church has taken the place of Israel in all the covenants God gave them. There will be NO Millennium where Jesus will sit physically on the Throne of David. No need for a Rapture of the Church (Body of Christ)

2. The Historian: Interpretation here places the events in Revelation as unfolding throughout History. By their interpretation, we today are still in the Tribulations mentioned in Revelation 6-19 and will be until the 2nd Advent of Christ. The end times result in the White Throne Judgement where Jesus will Judge all humankind on their works.

3. The Futurist: holds that the events of Revelation have largely been un-fulfilled and are “meta-tauta”..’Things that are to come’. This interpretation has become recently held only by a minority of churches today. This interpretation also holds that a Pre-Millenniuum Pre-Tribulation Rapture will take place as mentioned in 1 Thes 4:13-18.

4. The Idealist: This interpretation sets forth timeless constructs concerning the battle between good and evil throughout the church age. We see this mostly in the large mega churches where prosperity preaching in in vogue. These people see only GOD in what He can do for them.

For the rest of this series, we will be using a literal, historical, grammatical hermeneutics to interpret the chapters and verses of Revelation. I will also be including information concerning the Pre-millennial Pre-Tribulation Rapture as it applies to Revelation and other Books of the Bible.

Revelation is the Prophecy of the “End Times”

*As one well-known scholar said: ‘we know more about the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ than we do about all the time that Jesus was on the earth as a man.2
*The Bible has 1845 references in the OT about the 2nd coming of Christ in 17 out of 39 books of the Old Testament.
*Of the 216 chapters in the NT, there are 318 references to 2nd coming of Christ in 23 of the 27 Books of the NT.
*The 404 verses of Revelation reference over 800 verses located in the Old Testament. Virtually every book in the OT is referenced with the exception of Esther.

John: Who was he?
John was born at Bethsaida to (father) Zebedee and (mother) Salome. He had a brother named James. He was a Galilean fisherman and was partners with Peter and Andrew, both disciples of Jesus Christ. He was an early disciple of John the Baptist and was the youngest disciple of Jesus Christ. He was the only disciple to die naturally as all others were put to death in various ways. He was one of the three that were in the inner circle (Peter and brother James) in the ministry of Jesus Christ. He was at the Mt. of Transfiguration (Mat 17). He was at the raising of  Jairus’ daughter who had died. (Mat 9:18). Of course He was at the Olivet Discourse (Mat 24) and was at Gethsemane (Mat 26:37) that faithful night. John was given the care of the Mother of Jesus by Jesus at a time He was on the Cross. John took care of her he did until her dying day. After his release from the prison Isle of Patmos, He retired to Ephesus where Mary and His bodies are laid to rest. This information was given to us by Irenaeus, who was the disciple of Polycarp, who was the disciple of John.

John was the writer of 1 John (some say a Sermon of Love), 2 John (an epistle to Mary, mother of Jesus), 3 John (personal note to Gaius). He also wrote the Gospel of John and of course Revelation (the Unveiling of Jesus Christ).3
